Police scrambled to reports of ‘gunshots’ on estate as cordon in place

A cordon is in place after a reported shooting in north Manchester tonight (Friday, January 10). Police swarmed Bowmead Walk, between Waterloo Road and Highclere Avenue, in Cheetham Hill this afternoon after receiving reports shots had been fired.

A large cordon is currently in place. Specialist forensic officers in white suits are working inside and have been seen carrying out searches of the area.

The Manchester Evening News understands that at this stage police are still working to establish if indeed shots have been fired. No injuries have been reported Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have confirmed.

One man who lives locally, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: “I looked out about 3pm and saw all the police. It was just coming up to school time. It was all taped off and you couldn’t get through.

“There was about nine police cars at first. I had no idea what had happened at that stage. But I’ve spoken to a neighbour who said they heard three of four gunshots, and that they definitely weren’t fireworks. The police are still here and are searching the area.”
