Police statement after pedestrian dies in M42 collision tragedy

West Midlands Police is not treating the death of a pedestrian who was killed on the M42 as suspicious. The force was called to reports of a collision between a car and a man on the southbound carriageway, between junctions 4 and 3a at 11.09pm yesterday, Sunday, January 12.

An ambulance, paramedic officer, a specialist paramedic, a trauma team and a doctor responded to the scene. Despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save the victim and he was declared dead at the scene.

The death has been referred to Birmingham and Solihull Coroner’s Court.

West Midlands Police said: “We were called last night shortly after 11pm to the M42 between junction 4 and junction 3a after a man was hit by a car. The man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

“His death is not being treated as suspicious and will be referred to the coroner.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “When ambulance staff arrived, they found emergency service colleagues providing basic life support to a male pedestrian in a critical condition after reportedly being involved in a collision with a vehicle.

“The team of ambulance staff quickly commenced advanced life support. Sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed deceased on scene a short time later.”
