A major Llandudno hotel in “need of an upgrade” is now under offer. The Marine and County sites in Llandudno closed in 2020 when Shearings collapsed.
They reopened in 2021 under the management of Bespoke Hotels. This brought jobs and visitors back to the prominent seafront sites but last year the hotels were placed up for sale with Christie and Co.
The Marine Hotel was on for £5m and the County for £3.5m, later reduced to £2m. They both continue to trade as normal.
The County – which has 150 rooms and is on the junction of Queens Road and The Parade – has mixed reviews on TripAdvisor. One recent guest described it as the “worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in”, another described it as “dreadful” and one said it is “Really in need of update”.
But there were some more positive reviews with a couple from Bedfordshire enjoying a “great stay” with a “lovely welcome” and others said it was “good value but needed some TLC”.
There are hopes that new investment could now come with the site under offer according to Christie and Co.
In its listing, Christie and Co said: “The hotel has good sized public areas, many of which are sea front facing to the promenade beyond. The hotel has a large restaurant with capacity for approximately 150 covers located on the ground floor of the building. We understand that the restaurant has been relatively recently redecorated and re-carpeted. This adjoins the main lounge/bar which has seating for approximately 50 covers and comprises of a number of interlinking spaces.
“In addition to the main hotel bar, there is a separate pub for up to 80 people which has independent access from Queens Road. This is utilised by both residents and non-residents. In the basement is a large bar and stage area which is licensed for approximately 100.”
