Roundabout construction closes Bempton Lane for a further month

A spokesperson for East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC), said previously: “The project is expected to take up to six months to complete. For context, the A165 Scarborough Road roundabout took approximately 11 months.”

They stated that the estimated costs for the current construction are around £1 million – considerably lower than the A165 project, which totaled approximately £1.8 million.

However, concerns from local residents have been rising over the length of the road closure and the lack of pedestrian access.

The ERYC spokesperson explained that providing pedestrian access is not feasible due to the site’s narrow conditions and because excavations span the full width of the area.

“The roundabout’s construction is essential for accommodating hundreds of new homes planned for the northern outskirts of Bridlington. This development is intended to unfold in phases over the coming years.” said the ERYC spokesperson.
