RSPCA set to build small animal facility near Bridlington

A new small animal facility is set to be built on the outskirts of Bridlington.

The new facilities will comprise of a cattery and a building for rabbits and other small creatures.

A spokesperson for the branch explained: “There is a real need for more facilities for unwanted, abandoned and abused animals in our area.

“Recent figures released by the RSPCA state that since the start of the cost of living crisis the number of abandoned animals in our area has risen by a staggering 46% which is the highest percentage in the country.

“Our existing cattery is always full and we sometimes have to board cats at the local vets until spaces become available.

“Local RSPCA inspectors contact us on almost a daily basis to ask if we have a space for animals they are dealing with and the number of case animals where owners are being prosecuted for cruelty are very sadly also on the increase.

“Sometimes case animals can need to stay in an RSPCA facility for over a year until their case goes to court when hopefully the animals are then signed over to the RSPCA for rehoming.”

The cattery staff are pictured with two of the many cats the local RSPCA have in care at the moment looking for new homes from their existing shelter.

Bear is 10 years old and a recent arrival at the cattery. Sadly older animals can take a good while to find a new home.
