The McDiarmid Park clash finished in a 1-1 draw after Dwight Gayle cancelled out Nicky Clarke’s first-half penalty, following Jason Holt’s sending off. Sources say the Hibs casual group known as Block 7 were involved in the violent clashes.
Pictures taken before the match, and posted on social media site Instagram, showed over 50 fans clad in all black walking together. Other pictures and video, taken after the match, show police interacting with fans who have their hoods up and faces covered.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers dealt with disorder in Perth City Centre before and after the St Johnstone FC vs Hibernian FC football game on Thursday, 2 January, 2024 and enquiries are ongoing.
“Police work with partners to provide a safe event for all, including the surrounding community. Any disorder before, during or after a football match is unacceptable. We will seek to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”
