Scottish Water remove materials from Cairneyhill street

Works carried out to a fix a leak in the town’s Pitdinnie Avenue saw the area being left with a mound of leftover soil, piping, barriers, and cones.

John Watson, a resident, told the Press: “In October 2024 Scottish Water carried out a repair to a leak outside 24 Pitdinnie Avenue, Cairneyhill.

“The pavement was dug up to get to the leak and one side of the road was closed with cones and barriers to locate the spoil from the works. The repair was completed, pavement re-instated, but the road left partially blocked with the mound of left over soil and piping.

“After giving it a couple of weeks with no further action occurring, at the beginning of December I phoned the Helpline 0800 077 8778 provided on the barriers, and asked that now the job was completed could the equipment please be removed and the road fully opened up again.

“I then phoned on a weekly basis, but no was action taken.”

Just before Christmas a lorry arrived and picked up the soil mound.

However, the barriers, cones, signs, sandbags, and an old pipe were left behind on a grass verge. John was advised that this was the responsibility of Clancy, but nothing had changed at the turn of the year.

The Press was told by Scottish Water that the remaining items would be removed on Friday, January 10. John has confirmed that they were taken away that day.

“Following the completion of the repair, our teams removed surplus materials from the site just before Christmas.

“We are grateful to local residents for bringing this to our attention and appreciate their patience while we resolved the issue.

“Scottish Water is committed to ensuring all works are completed to a high standard and that affected areas are fully cleared and reinstated.”
