Seaside town two hours from Birmingham where you can buy a house for £108k

The most affordable coastal towns in the UK have been named – and it is a mere two hours away from Birmingham. That means you can buy yourself a house by the sea not too far away for just £108,000.

Rhyl in Denbighshire, Wales, topped the list as the most budget-friendly seaside town to live. This town, which straddles the coastline and sits at the mouth of the River Clwyd, is a magnet for day trippers from the north west of England due to its close proximity to Liverpool and Manchester.

It also topped MailOnline’s list of affordable places to live by the sea. In this seaside town, you can purchase a home for just £108k, significantly cheaper than the average Birmingham house price of around £240,000. For £108k on Zoopla, you could secure a three-bedroom semi-detached house just a five-minute walk from the beach.

Ideally situated near a range of schools and only 0.4 miles from Rhyl station, all the town’s local amenities are within easy walking distance. Just a three-minute stroll from the seaside – and with a price tag of just £130k – is a charming double-fronted cottage style semi.

The house features a hall, lounge, dining room and kitchen on the ground floor, and two bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor. The property also boasts an enclosed and private rear courtyard and is conveniently located close to all local amenities, reports the Express.

Dating back to 1897, a delightful mid-terrace property located just moments away from the beachfront is now available on the market for an attractive price of £120k. Perfect for those looking to step onto the property ladder or investors, the two-bedroom terraced house boasts views over St. Thomas Church and features a snug living room complete with a period fireplace, lending a slice of historical allure to the space.

However, potential buyers inclined towards settling in Rhyl should be mindful of the town’s reputation; the once famed Victorian coastal resort has been dubbed the “Costa del Dole” of Britain. In the Telegraph’s 2023 Seaside Gentrification Index, which evaluates 20 classic seaside towns based on their evolution, or lack thereof, over the last three decades, Rhyl performed dismally.

The index considered aspects such as high street quality, refurbishments, and cultural influence, leading to Rhyl being described as a place with “no past, no arts or entertainment, no fun”.
