Police and emergency services were at the scene on the A68 Tow Law on Sunday (January 5) following the crash at around 4.40pm, between five vehicles.
Several of the drivers were taken to hospital, but with minor injuries.
Today, (January 6), the road still remains closed as police confirm that will be the case until the vehicles are recovered in better weather conditions.
A Durham Constabulary spokesperson said: “Police received a report of a multi-vehicle collision on the A68 Tow Law yesterday (Sunday, January 5) at around 4.40pm.
“The collision involved five vehicles, and several of the drivers involved attended hospital with minor injuries.

“The road between West Lane junction and Butsfield Lane crossroads remains closed until weather allows for the vehicles to be recovered.
“Drivers are advised to find alternative routes.”
