South east London pubs and bars we lost in 2024

In 2024 south east Londoners said goodbye to these pubs.

London & Rye, Catford

The former London & Rye pub in Catford, managed by Wetherspoons, closed its doors after 24 years in business in August 2024.

The pub, which first opened in 2000, was put up for sale by letting agent Savills for £850,000, marking the end of an era for this former Catford venue.

The pub earned its name from the old London to Rye road that used to run along the site and was situated within a 19th century building which was believed to house merchants moving to London.

The Star of Greenwich

The Star of Greenwich closed its doors on November 8, following demands made by landlord Greenwich Hospital over £50,000 of rent arrears.

Pub manager Kirsty Dunlop told News Shopper that the pub would only be able to open if they raise the needed funds, however their fundraiser was unsuccessful.

Good Neighbour, Camberwell and Peckham

The Good Neighbour wine bars business, with branches in Camberwell and Peckham, closed its 3 bars across the capital on March 5.

Writing on social media, Good Neighbour said: “Sadly these are not unique circumstances in hospitality right now and the reasons for this no longer need explaining.”
