The proposals have been brought forward by applicant Europe Jersey Ltd and seek to change the use of the Glencairn Bar in Stevenston.
The bar, located on the corner of New Street and Afton Road, has been part of the town for decades – though has been described as “failing” within application documents submitted to North Ayrshire Council this week.
It is stated that the plans to convert the public house would “thereby avoid a shuttered shell and maintain town centre life”.

If approved, minimal changes would be made to the building’s exterior. The only additional features would see two new windows installed on the New Street side of the premises, where the property extends underneath the canopy next to Ladbrokes.
On the Afton Road side, the only adjustment would be the addition of a small timber fence with a lockable gate across the existing entrance.
A small change would also be made to the rear of the venue, with a new door installed as well as the creation of a bin store within the adjacent car park area.
Internally, the home would be comprised of an entrance hallway, four bedrooms, a lounge area, a snug, kitchen and bathroom, all situated across one floor.
Three bedrooms and the lounge would be located within what is currently the bar serving and seated area.
The male and female customer toilets within would be adjusted to form the property’s bathroom, while the staff toilets, kitchen and office would become the home’s kitchen.
The bar’s current cellar would form the final bedroom within the house and the additional storage area to the rear of the premises is earmarked for a ‘snug’.
Plans were submitted to North Ayrshire Council for consideration on Monday, January 6. At present, an internal target date of March 6 has been set for a decision to be made.
The application is available to view, in full, online via the council’s online planning portal – searching for reference 24/00945/PP.
