A large emergency service response was called to an incident in a residential street in Exeter following concerns for the welfare of a woman. Police and ambulance crews were seen in the area of Lancelot Street yesterday evening, Monday, January 13.
Devon and Cornwall Police said that the woman was making threats to harm herself inside a property in the area. It is believed that she had a knife.
A cordon was placed in the area and police negotiators were called to the scene. The woman voluntarily left the property around 9pm and was uninjured. She was then taken into the care of health professionals.
At the time of the incident, one witness told DevonLive: “There is massive police persistent on Lancelot road in Exeter, two riot vans armed police and 13 police cars.”
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were called at 5.40pm on 13 January following a concern for the welfare of a woman at an address in Exeter. The woman was making threats to harm herself inside a property in the Lancelot Road area. It was believed she was in possession of a knife.

“A cordon was put in place while police negotiated with the woman. The woman voluntarily left the address without further incident around 9pm. She was uninjured. Ambulance also attended and the woman was taken into the care of health professionals.”
