He was sentenced at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Thursday and handed the community payback order, which also includes a year’s supervision.
Hogg, who now plays rugby in France for Montpellier, has also been prevented from contacting his ex-wife, Gillian, with a five-year non-harassment order imposed.
The ex-Glasgow Warriors and Exeter Chiefs full back admitted the charge and would regularly shout and swear at Gillian in their family home, accusing her of not being ‘fun’ if she didn’t want to go drinking.

He has been described as ‘angry’ and ‘controlling’ during the relationship and the father of four left his victim scared by his behaviour, with her admitting she would pray for it to be morning when he would sober up.
Hogg also tracked her movements by using an app on her phone and would jealously quiz her on who she was socialising with.
The torment continued for years and he sent in excess of 200 texts to her over a period of a few hours when their marriage broke down and he was asked to leave her alone.
Hogg has also previously been sentenced for breaching bail conditions not to approach or contact his ex-partner while awaiting trial and was five £600.
Lynne Barrie, Procurator Fiscal for Lothian and Borders, said: “Stuart Hogg has now been convicted and held accountable for subjecting his estranged wife to years of domestic abuse.
“COPFS recognises the devastating impact of domestic abuse and is committed to the robust prosecution of offences, regardless of who the offender is.
“No one should have to live in fear of a partner or former partner. The trauma suffered by victims – and children who witness these crimes – is significant.
“I would urge anyone affected by similar offending to come forward and report it.
“We will use all the tools available to us to secure justice, and you will be listened to and supported throughout the process.”
