Suffolk Trading Standards launch hunt for rogue trader after vulnerable Ipswich resident targeted

A hunt has been launched for a rogue trader who is believed to be targeting vulnerable residents in Ipswich.

Last week, Suffolk Trading Standards received a report that a male arrived uninvited to a premises in the IP4 area on or around December 19.

The trader told the resident, described as vulnerable, that work was required on the roof of the building and a verbal agreement was reached for £2,500.

According to a spokesperson for Suffolk Trading Standards, the trader said scaffolding would be put up and the work would be completed within this week.

After an investigation involving friends and relatives of the victim, the authority put measures in place to prevent the trader from returning.

Now, officers are working to track down those responsible.

Anyone who had traders come to their door, or knows of a friend or family member that has in the lead up to Christmas, is urged to contact Suffolk Trading Standards.

In addition, anyone who may be able to describe what the trader, or a vehicle they were using, looked like, should also come forward.

Anyone who can aid the investigation should call Suffolk Trading Standards on 0808 223 1133.

The spokesperson added: “Our advice is to never deal with traders on your doorstep.

“Do your research before agreeing to have any work carried out.

“Don’t be fooled by sign printed vans, glossy leaflets and a website.”
