The driver apologised to those stuck in the gridlock.

“Once again, I apologise for the long delay, and any restoration work that I gather is still ongoing. The paperwork now starts,” he added.

The Facebook post drew heartfelt responses from commuters caught up in the traffic.

One person commented: “Is what it is, [I] was stuck for around six hours before being turned around. Just part of driving. Glad you are okay and hope everyone else involved is okay.”

Others also posted similar sentiments, saying they were happy to hear that both lorry drivers had survived.

Another driver posted on the group: “8.5 hours later and I’m finally home! It was such a horrible accident on the A303… On a serious note, I really hope the two lorry drivers are okay.”
