Sutton Bridge Constitutional Club hosts charity event to help families who lost their homes in devastating Holbeach fire

A charity event is taking place this month in aid of the residents who lost their homes during a devastating blaze that destroyed their properties.

Sutton Bridge Constitutional Club is hosting a karaoke disco, sausage supper and live music from Two of a Kind to raise funds for Richard and Karolyn Ward, their daughter Mollie and neighbour Jayden Nightingale who lost everything at their homes in Hallgate, Holbeach on January 1.

Their properties have been reduced to burnt rubble after a stray firework landed in the Ward’s garden shed – sparking a blaze that needed a response from five Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue crews.

All proceeds from the event — which is happening on Friday, January 24 — will go towards helping the Ward family, who lost all their belongings including a pet budgie that died as a result of the fire – and Mr Nightingale, who was away during the terrifying incident.

Gareth Sever from Two of a Kind said: “We wanted to be part of helping the event and community,

“We had the date available so offered to play free to help the evening.”

The idea for the event which will be happening at the club in Sutton Bridge had a lot of good feedback.

David Sones, manager said: “The idea is to give them a night away from all the troubles – it snowballed from there really and turned into a fundraiser.

“It will be lovely for both families to come and the feedback I’ve got has been tremendous.

“We really want people to buy tickets now to make it a great night.”

Tickets cost £12 – with a capacity of 75 on the night – and there will be a raffle and an auction for a chance to win a disco.

Businesses are encouraged to provide auction items or raffle prizes.
