Teenager, 16, tells Lincoln Crown Court that he had no idea why he was attacked in Holbeach

A 16-year-old boy who was allegedly left for dead after a violent assault in Holbeach had no idea why he was attacked, a court heard.

Another youth, aged 16, denies a charge of attempted murder after the boy was found with wounds to his throat and chest.

Lincoln Crown Court heard the victim was discovered by police during the early hours of 28 July after they were called to a piece of land adjacent to the William Stukeley primary school.

Prosecutors allege the boy was wounded by other the youth after he passed out from drinking vodka which was bought by an adult from a local shop.

Jurors heard the victim was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham and placed in an induced coma after he was located lying face down next to a hedge.

The victim, who can not be named because of his age, was later interviewed on video by police officers.

During the video, which was played to the jury, the boy explained that he drank a quarter of the vodka bottle and had no memory of the assault on him.

The boy said his last memory was going to a red bench with the other youth and a teenage girl who he recalled was crying.

His next memory was waking up in hospital, jurors were told.

When asked if he could think of any reason for the assault, the boy replied: “No idea.”

“I didn’t feel threatened or anything,” he added.

It is alleged the boy was subjected to a violent attack by the other youth and then left for dead.

The 16-year-old defendant, who also can not be named because of his age, has admitted a charge of unlawful wounding but denies attempted murder and wounding the other boy with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

The trial continues.
