Teesside child sex abuser wreaked havoc on lives of victims

Ellis Dismore preyed on at least nine young girls over a seven-year period where his attention soon turned sinister and his messages became more demanding.

The 24-year-old started contacting numerous young girls over social media posing as a friendly teenage boy before ramping up the pressure on them to send sexually explicit images of themselves.

Dismore used threats and intimidation to force the victims into sharing intimate photographs before threatening to share them on social media if they refused his perverted demands.

His deviant behaviour escalated into a murderous attack on one young girl who had the audacity to eventually rebuff his sickening demands as he continued to wreak havoc on his victims’ lives.

In revenge, he followed her home from school before launching a violent attack on her and stabbing several times in the back.

CCTV footage captured the horrendous attack as the teenager ran for her life along a Middlesbrough street.

In a victim impact statement, the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said: “He started to control what I did, who I saw, when I go out, I did what he told me too as I was scared about what would happen to me or my friends or family.

“I felt like I was a prisoner in my own home and felt isolated.”

The teenager added: “I was so ashamed and embarrassed that people I knew and complete strangers had seen some of the very personal images of me – I knew they would be shared around.

“A few days later my mother received some voice notes – they were terrifying – he was threatening to kill me by stabbing me through the heart.”

She added: “Ellis Dismore tried to kill me. I was chased and stabbed on my way home from school. The attack was horrific. I felt like I was going to be killed in broad daylight.

“I ran for my life but luckily someone stopped their car and let me in, if not for her Ellis Dismore would have killed me.”

Another victim said the unwanted contact had left her feeling unnerved as it went on for several years.

She added: “For an extended period I was bombarded with very personal, rude, hateful, and inappropriate messages. He used personal information about me that he should have and then he threatened and blackmailed me.”

Teesside Crown Court had heard how the defendant had targeted no less than nine young girls and always followed the same script as his demands became increasingly sexual and threatening.

Speaking after Dismore received a 43-year-prison sentence, Detective Sergeant Andrew Hamilton, from Cleveland Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) said: “First and foremost, I would like to commend the bravery of the women and girls who came forward and gave evidence about their traumatic experiences at the hands of Ellis Dismore.

“It would not have been easy for them and their families to have to go through the investigation and court process, and I thank them for both their support and patience during this time.

“Over a period of seven years, Dismore used fake social media accounts to groom and stalk a number of young girls and enticed them into sending indecent images. He made vile threats towards them and sent sickening voice notes threatening to rape and stab them.

“Dismore’s offending escalated when he attacked one 15-year-old girl in the street with a knife in a terrifying assault as she went home from school, leaving her with serious injuries. Had she not been saved by a courageous passer-by, she could have lost her life.

“This incident led to the discovery of other girls who had been preyed on by Dismore and stalked and harassed via social media.

“I am pleased with the sentence handed to Dismore today. He is a violent predator and now that he is in prison he can no longer pose a danger to women and girls in our community.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to remind parents and guardians that if they would like any advice on how to help keep children safe online, this can be found on the Cleveland Police website – www.cleveland.police.uk”

And NSPCC’s Rani Govender, Regulatory Policy Manager, Child Safety Online, said: “Dismore is a frightening and highly dangerous individual whose campaign of online grooming and sexual exploitation escalated to stalking and, ultimately, attempting to murder one of his young victims.

“The fact he was able to create a teenage profile on social media sites to target girls highlights once again why tech companies must be compelled to make their platforms safe by design for all their young users.

“It is also so important that all those targeted and abused by Dismore are given the support they need to move forward with their lives.”
