Living in the South East is no cheap affair, and it’s not just London that’s pricey. Surrey, Kent, Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Essex – the list goes on – all command higher living costs than most parts of the country.
The truly wealthy often bypass exclusive London postcodes for a more secluded lifestyle, close enough to the capital for convenience but far enough for tranquillity.
Elmbridge in Surrey is one such spot, so posh that The Telegraph has dubbed it the ‘Beverley Hills of England’.
This affluent area includes towns like Cobham, home to several Chelsea footballers, and Walton-on-Thames, an unassuming yet exclusive corner of the world. Property here doesn’t come cheap.

According to Rightmove, the average property in Elmbridge across the last year went for a mighty £859K, even more expensive than London…though that will happen when lots of your houses look more like an aristocrat’s manor.
But the perks are fantastic, especially if you’re a pub lover. Walton is perfect for those who enjoy a pint, boasting numerous quality pubs, many of which are located by the river – ideal for a summer’s day.

Anglers of Walton and the Weir Hotel are both great options, as is The Swan, which boasts near-perfect reviews on Tripadvisor – quite an achievement given there are nearly 800 of them. To get there, you’ll need to head to either Wimbledon or Vauxhall.
From Wimbledon, it should take no longer than 20 minutes, while from Vauxhall, it’ll be closer to half an hour.
