Hello,
There was shock in Oldham over the weekend after a nurse was stabbed while on shift in A&E at Royal Oldham Hospital.
Police raced to the scene following the incident at around 11:30pm on Saturday. The victim, a woman in her 50s, is in a critical condition in hospital. She has suffered ‘serious’ injuries which police say are ‘believed to be life-changing.’

A 37 year-old man has been charged with attempted murder.
Staff and patients at the hospital are said to have been left ‘distressed and frightened’ by the incident, with the hospital said they had been left ‘incredibly shocked and saddened’ by it.
Jim McMahon, the MP for Oldham West, Chadderton and Royton, has called the stabbing a “senseless attack” as he wished the nurse a full recovery. You can read the full story here.
Silver lining
They say that every cloud has a silver lining, and in the case of beloved vegetarian restaurant Greens closing their Didsbury site, that may well be true.

That’s according to the M.E.N’s Liv Clarke, who dined at Porta tapas bar, the new kid on the block at the old Greens premises. Porta are already open in Salford, Altrincham, and Chester, bringing authentic Spanish tapas to the north west.
And while the loss of Greens is certainly one to mourn, Liv said it has been replaced by something ‘wonderful’. You can read her full review here.
Radio relocation
Some sad news for local radio fans now, as regional shows on some of the country’s most popular radio stations are set to be scrapped.

Beloved north west shows including ‘The Rob Ellis Show’ with Rob, Rachel and Wingman on Capital are among those to be replaced by a London-based broadcast, it is understood.
XS Manchester, who play indie and rock tunes and pride themselves on supporting new talent, are also set to close and be replaced by Radio X 90s, leaving fans ‘gutted’. You can read more here.
The rabbit man, the wizard driver, and the boxes of chickens
Ah, the Magic Bus. For those of us who went to university in Manchester, love them or hate them, they were a staple of our experience.

The beloved venue has said it will continue to operate as an independent music venue and pub, following a commitment from its new operator to honour the legacy of its landlord, Andy Martin, who sadly passed away last year.
Broadwick, a global events business behind venues including Depot Mayfield, will immediately invest in The Star & Garter, by focusing on ‘essential infrastructure improvements’ while preserving the venue’s ‘iconic atmosphere and unique charm’, according to the update. More here.
