The National launches new Good News Scotland newsletter

THE news feels a bit overwhelming in its negativity at times. Trust me, I know.

Whether it’s news from abroad, like Israel’s brutal war on Gaza, or at home – from the ongoing cost-of-living crisis to climate change or a struggling NHS – it can feel as though there is little to celebrate when it comes to the state of the world and Scotland in 2025.

From a media perspective, this negative spin on things is sometimes necessary. As newspapers and/or news websites, we have a duty to hold power to account, uncover wrongdoing, ask difficult questions and scrutinise.

But it’s also important to highlight the positive stories, of which there are many in Scotland.

So, we at The National are starting a monthly newsletter – Good News Scotland – to highlight all that is going right in our beautiful country.

The first Monday of each month, I will be giving you a lovely summary of the previous month’s positive and uplifting stories.

Maybe it will be about inspiring changemakers or sporting triumphs. Perhaps about areas or issues where Scotland is world-leading – from our clean energy potential to our conservation efforts and cultural sector.

Hey, maybe even giving politicians/parties credit where it’s due from time to time!

Subscribe below – with the first newsletter popping into your inbox in just a few days time (Monday, January 6) with each of The National’s reporters sharing theirs picks for the best positive news story of 2024.
