Thief jailed for targeting Roseberry Grange Golf Club

Carl Hodgson, 29, of Whitehouse Crescent, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 6, 2025, where he pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary at Roseberry Grange Golf Club.

The offences occurred over several months in 2023 and 2024.

The court heard that Hodgson entered the premises as a trespasser on multiple occasions, stealing a range of items including alcohol, cash, electronic devices, charity jars, and a safe.

The total value of the stolen items exceeded £965.

  • September 9, 2023: Hodgson stole alcoholic drinks and bar snacks valued at £170.73.
  • February 17, 2024: He took bottles of alcohol and cash worth £175.
  • May 1, 2024: Hodgson stole a safe, cash, electronic devices, and charity jars valued at £620.

Magistrates sentenced Hodgson to six months in custody for each burglary, with the sentences to run concurrently.

An additional month was added for the September 2023 offence, resulting in a total custodial sentence of seven months.

He was also ordered to pay £300 in compensation to the golf club.

Prosecutor Paige Sparks, representing CPS North East, emphasised Hodgson’s repeated targeting of the same premises, highlighting the financial and emotional toll on the business.

Defence counsel Lucy Redshaw noted Hodgson’s guilty pleas and acknowledged his cooperation with the proceedings.
