Three suspects named and charged after spate of ATM thefts

Three men have been charged following a spate of ATM thefts across the South of England and the Midlands. It comes following an investigation from Thames Valley Police, Gloucestershire Police, Avon and Somerset Police, and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police.

Aled Carroll, aged 27, of 15 Arfryn, Carmarthenshire, Luke McCarthy, aged 27, of Snowdrop Drive, Bristol, and Neil McCarthy, aged 40, of Kingsway, Bristol, were each charged with one count of conspiracy to steal. The charges relate to 20 reported thefts from ATMs between May 16, 2024, and January 9 this year.

The suspects appeared in Reading Magistrates’ Court last Friday, January 11. Luke McCarthy was remanded in custody while Carroll and Neil McCarthy were released on bail. They will each appear in court on Monday, February 3.

Thames Valley Police said: “Following a Thames Valley Police led investigation, working in conjunction with Avon and Somerset Police, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary and Gloucestershire Constabulary, three men have been charged in connection with ATM thefts across the UK.

“Aled Carroll, aged 27, of 15 Arfryn, Carmarthenshire, Luke McCarthy, aged 27, of Snowdrop Drive, Bristol and Neil McCarthy, aged 40, of Kingsway, Bristol were each charged on Friday, January 11, with one count of conspiracy to steal. The charges relate to 20 incidents of theft from ATMs between 16 May 2024 and 9 January 2025 across the South of England and the Midlands.

“They appeared in Reading Magistrates Court on Friday (11/1); Luke McCarthy was remanded while Aled Carroll and Neil McCarthy were released on court bail. They are all due to appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Monday 3 February.”
