The first crash happened at the bridge on Summer Road, Erdington this morning – with another this afternoon (Tuesday January 7).
The crashes blocked the Cross City train line between Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley.
Birmingham New Street posted on X at 12.46pm: “We’re sorry but the same Erdington bridge has been hit by a lorry for a second time.
“We’ll check the bridge as quickly as possible so the line can reopen.
“Drivers – always know the height of your vehicle to avoid incidents like this!”

West Midlands Railway posted at 10.20am: “WMRNew Line blocked between Birmingham New Street & Lichfield Trent Valley.
“Due to a lorry striking with a bridge near Erdington, the line is blocked
“Trains may be cancelled, altered, or delayed.”
Then it said at 12.28pm: “A SECOND bridge collision at Erdington “The Cross City North is again blocked.”
Erdington Police posted advised drivers to find an alternative route, as the crash has blocked the road.
The Cross-City Line runs from Redditch and Bromsgrove in Worcestershire, to Lichfield, Staffordshire via Birmingham New Street, connecting the suburbs of Birmingham in between.
Services are operated by West Midlands Railway.
