Two charged with attempted murder after Hartlepool ‘shooting’

Emergency services were called to Garside Drive on Thursday (January 2) after a man was left seriously injured from suspected gunshot wounds. 

The injured man, aged in his thirties, was taken to hospital, while white-suited investigators were spotted probing the scene behind a blue and white police cordon. 

Cleveland Police initially arrested seven people – five males aged 19, 21, 23, 32, 32 and two women aged 34 and 54 – in connection with the reported incident on Sunday.

Now, the force has confirmed that two people have been charged. 

Luis Nazare Fonseca, 20, has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm without a certificate, possession of a firearm when prohibited for five years, possession with intent to supply class A drugs – cocaine, possession with intent to supply a class A drug – crack cocaine, possession of a knife, blade or a sharply pointed article and theft from a person.

Derem Turner, 19, has been charged with attempted murder. 

They have both been remanded in custody to appear at Teesside Crown Court this morning (Tuesday, January 7.)

Meanwhile, two women, aged 34 and 54, and three men, aged 23, 32, and 32, who were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, have been released on bail whilst further investigations continue.

As reported, police erected a cordon around several properties at the time of the incident, with the force increasing its police presence in the area at the time. 

The alleged victim’s current condition is not known.
