related complication.

Whether its help with tech or cooking remarkable curries for the community, Jimmy’s dedication resonates deeply within the town and has done since 2018 when he retired.

Jimmy and his wife Claire were described as true assets to Horden – with their service being called remarkable.

In a short video before he won, Jimmy said: “In Horden, we have these numbered streets which have got bad press in the past.

“Here at the Hub House we offer so many services, including crisis support.

“This nomination was a shock to me – it shows that maybe what I’m doing, I’m doing right. I always say that volunteers don’t get paid not because we are worthless – it’s because we’re priceless.”

Stepping up to the stage Jimmy was both shocked and overjoyed to receive the award, speaking about how Horden had, in the past, received “a lot of bad press”.

“I am flying high,” he said, tears in his eyes.

Host Peter Barron quickly picked up on Jimmy’s culinary skills, joking that next year he’d be asked to cater the event, which garnered a few laughs.

Not missing a beat, Jimmy immediately replied: “You donate the food, I’ll cook it.”
