Village Fryer chippy in Burtonwood given two-star food hygiene rating

Village Fryer in Burtonwood was visited recently by environment officers from Warrington Borough Council.

The outcome of the visit in November has today, Monday, been published on the Food Standards Agency website.

This reveals that the Clay Lane venue has been handed a two-out-of-five food hygiene rating, which states that ‘improvement is necessary.

As well as overall ratings, food premises are graded in three individual areas, namely hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety.

The first looks at the hygienic handling of food, including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.

The second covers the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.

Management of food safety encompasses systems or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, as well as evidence that staff know about food safety.

It also covers whether the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in the future.

In the first and third categories, Village Fryer was said to be ‘generally satisfactory’.

However, in terms of the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, the venue was said to require ‘necessary improvement’.
