Wyre Forest District Council has said LCP Estates Ltd has requested that Weavers Wharf car park be removed from the local authority’s ‘Off-street Parking Places Order’.
The council has revealed that the company has stated it wants to improve the infrastructure within the car park to make parking management more efficient. It is also looking to invest in the repairs and upkeep and ‘expand the facility of concessionary discounts.’
Councillor Ben Brookes, Wyre Forest District Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for operational services said: “The car park is part of the Weavers Wharf Shopping Centre which has been under private ownership since it was created in early 2000.
“The council doesn’t own it, but we have been managing the car park and carrying out enforcement there.
“LCP has requested the removal of the parking places order as they want greater flexibility in the car park’s operation and we have agreed to start the process.’
A spokesperson for LCP added: “The car park at Weavers Wharf, owned by LCP, is currently managed, including enforcement, on our behalf by Wyre Forest District Council.
“We have proposed to manage the car park and parking enforcement on the site of Weavers Wharf.
“We intend to improve the infrastructure within the car park and invest in repairs and upkeep of the car park.”
Wyre Forest District Council is carrying out a consultation on the request to remove the car park from the parking places order.
The consultation starts on Thursday, January 16 and runs until 4pm on Wednesday, February 5.
