The 26-year-old is accused of falsely telling a man he was the father of her child.
It is alleged that Beth Fernley, of Great Sankey, committed fraud by falsely representing to a man that he was the father of her child.
The particulars of the charge allege that she did so intending to make a financial gain for herself, causing a financial loss to the complainant.
Fernley, of Wroxham Road, did not enter any plea to the offence, which allegedly took place between March 31, 2019, and May 1, 2021.
Her barrister, Tom Worsfold, told Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, Wednesday, that there will be a defence application to dismiss the case, stating: “It is a slightly unusual case.”
He asked that the Crown review the case, including the ‘public interest’, and said that one of the matters was the scope of the charge.
Judge Andrew Menary fixed a date for the application to dismiss hearing for March 18.
He also fixed a provisional date for a four-day trial to begin on October 29.
Fernley, who had four supporters in the public gallery, was granted unconditional bail.
