Oita Lavinia gave a Warrington address as her place of residence when she appeared before Chester Magistrates’ Court recently.
She was charged with theft from a shop, with a co-defendant previously sentenced for the crime in the summer.
Now, the 54-year-old has too been sentenced, with the court imposing a suspended sentence as she was ‘due to return home’
The court heard from prosecutor Kassem Noureddine how the charge relates to a theft committed from North Face at Cheshire Oaks designer outlet in Ellesmere Port.
On January 21 last year, Lavinia and co-accused Mirela Luca proceeded to steal North Face clothing worth £955.
Luca, aged 35, whose address was given as Cherry Court, near Warrington town centre, admitted his guilt and was handed a 12-month community order and unpaid work in July.
Lavinia however was found guilty, having denied responsibility, and was sentenced by magistrates to a suspended jail term.
The defendant, who gave her address as Wellfield Street in Whitecross, was handed 12 weeks behind bars, but this was suspended for the next 12 months.
Court documents state that the custodial sentence was suspended because she is ‘only visiting the UK and will be back in Romania in the New Year’.
In addition, Lavinia was ordered to pay costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £650 and a victim surcharge of £154.
The same document states that a suspended sentence was imposed as the offending was ‘so serious’ and she has a ‘flagrant disregard for people and their property’.
