Woman stole £1,000 Lancôme perfume products from Ayr Boots

Emmanuella Tanta admitted to stealing a quantity of Lancôme products from Boots Chemist on the town’s High Street whilst acing with others whose names were not provided in court documents.

The 19-year-old was granted bail when she appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court from custody before Christmas – after making off with the £1,043 haul during the incident on November 14, 2023.

The goods were not recovered.

Tanta will return for sentencing later in the new year.

A prosecutor told the court: “At approximately 2pm on November 14 [2023], a colleague was at Boots working at the counter.

“All was in order and at 3.05pm they returned from lunch and noticed a display was emptied of a quantity of stock.

“An unidentified male was in her [Tanta’s] company.”

The thief’s solicitor said: “The accused is 19 years of age and matters have moved on substantially.

“She appeared in court on November 26 [2024] concerning a warrant and has since been in custody.

“She normally resides in the south side of Glasgow. She was staying with her aunt, who is a more supervising influence and she has been trouble free.

“She has a number of other matters to be dealt with. It was a situation where she found herself in Ireland and was unable to come back [leading to the warrant].

“She found custody a dreadful experience.”

The sheriff said: “I am prepared to allow bail for the preparation of reports.”

Bail was granted for Tanta, of Allison Street, Govanhill, under condition not to enter the High Street Boots branch.

She will return to Ayr Sheriff Court at a later date.
