Worcester: Mount Battenhall Retirement Village hosts event

Mount Battenhall residents in Worcester turned detective for an evening of mystery and intrigue inspired by Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club.

With the highly-anticipated Netflix adaptation coming later this year, the timing could not have been better for the village’s own murder mystery event.

The team at Mount Battenhall were keen to bring a taste of the crime-solving drama to the retirement community.

Whisking the village’s homeowners and visitors back to the 1980s, the building on Battenhall Avenue became the perfect setting for a murder mystery set on the first day of Live Aid.

With the sounds of iconic music from the decade and 1980s attire, attendees were invited to work out who killed the postmistress in an immersive performance delivered by the Magor Amateur Dramatics Society.

Mount Battenhall’s general manager Clare Davies said: “Events like this showcase what Mount Battenhall is all about — creating opportunities for our homeowners to enjoy an active, engaging lifestyle while building lasting friendships.

“Seeing everyone dressed in their 1980s finest, enjoying a delicious meal and working together to solve the mystery really brought our community spirit to life.”

The evening unfolded in Sprigg’s, the village’s on-site restaurant, where guests enjoyed a three-course dinner while comparing notes and sharing theories on suspects.

Sally Young, a homeowner at Mount Battenhall, said: “The murder mystery evening was thoroughly enjoyable with a wonderful mix of theatrics, tongue-in-cheek humour, dinner and drinks that kept us entertained all evening.

“Our table came in second place and I’m already looking forward to attending again next year. I will be sure to make more notes next time though!”

The murder mystery evening is part of a vibrant events calendar at the retirement village.

From book clubs and wellness classes to wine tastings and themed dinners, Mount Battenhall offers its homeowners a rich variety of social occasions that foster friendship and community.
