Worcester’s The Northwick Arms and acoustic musical duo This Is The Life supported MND Association which focuses on improving access to care, research and campaigning for people affected by motor neurone disease.
The pub’s Northwick Knights paddlers raised funds during last summer’s charity Race the Dragon event on the River Severn in the city which was the first since the Covid outbreak.
It was organised by Worcester Dragon Boat Racing Team.
The charity was selected after team member David Palmer lost a friend and colleague to the disease.
As well as the dragon boat race, David’s singing duo This Is The Life, who cover everything from 1960s songs to more recent music, held a fund-raising evening at the pub which is based at the corner of Vine Street and Northwick Road.
A JustGiving fundraising page set up for the live music event beat its target of £500.
Knights have held dragon boating raffles and rattled collection boxes.
On top of other raffles over 2024, the pub has sent out cuddly penguin Wick on a series of adventures.
He has travelled around Europe and the United Kingdom helping to raise awareness of the disease.
The idea was inspired by the Great Waddle of Worcester which involved a charity penguin trail and auction in aid of St Richard’s Hospice.
