Wyre Forest: Nominate your community heroes for an award

Wyre Forest District Council is once again running No Barriers – the Mike Oborski Awards.

These are awards which recognise local businesses, organisations and individuals that have provided significant access, service or employment possibilities for people with disabilities.

They also celebrate those who have given particular consideration to the wider needs of people within the community.

Councillor Fran Oborski, chair of the awards panel, said: “No Barriers awards have always been close to my heart, as they were set up in memory of my husband Mike, but after my experience last year they mean even more to me.

“Following an operation to amputate my leg, I became a wheelchair user.

“Now it’s even clearer to me the difference people who do that bit more make to the lives of people with disabilities.

“It is really important that we celebrate the achievements of those who go the extra mile. “

The first No Barriers Awards were held in 2008. They were set up in memory of Councillor Mike Oborski, who initiated the project. He was Polish Honorary Consul for the West Midlands. The idea for the awards came from a similar scheme in Gdynia, Poland.

Nominations can be submitted online or forms can be collected from The Hub, Green Street, Kidderminster or Wyre Forest House Reception, Finepoint Way, Kidderminster. Nominations close on Monday 10 February 2025

The awards will be given out at a ceremony on Tuesday March 4 at Wyre Forest House.
