Ystalyfera school placed in partial lockdown

A Welsh school was placed in a partial lockdown as a “disturbance involving a pupil” was dealt with. The procedure was implemented at Ysgol Gymraeg Ystalyfera, in Neath Port Talbot, on Tuesday afternoon – January 14.

In a statement, Neath Port Talbot Council stated that the incident was dealt with quickly, and was now over. A spokesman added that all pupils and staff were safe.

A Neath Port Talbot Council spokesman said: “There was an isolated incident at Ysgol Gymraeg Ystalyfera on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 14, 2025 which led to a partial lock-down procedure being implemented. A spokesman for South Wales Police added: “Officers attended Ysgol Gymraeg Ystalyfera shortly after 1pm today (Tuesday January 14) following a report of an ongoing disturbance involving a pupil.
